Before, During, After, and a Question I Have Apparently Answered

Before (how it should be)

Everything in place. Neat-ish and not-so-orderly. My stuff where I can find them. Stuff to do. Lots of computers. Snug. Livable home.

During (the pack)

Boxes. Towers of boxes. The sound of duct tape. Claustrophobic rooms. Empty spaces full. Full spaces empty. Smaller rooms. Boxes are walls. Bees. Pushed outside. I refind the joy of swinging (while on a blue plastic toy swing attached to our swing set that's a bit taller than me). My room doesn't look the same.

After (present)

Echoes. Empty rooms. Big rooms. Hard floors. No furniture. Watching movies on dad's laptop. Watching late-night videos in dirty lawn chairs. Nothing to do. "Picnicking" in our dining room. "Camping" in our basement. Terrified of what stage is next.

When will this be over??????

Never.

I knew it.

There's always something next.

Darling TZ, yes it will be better, you have a real adventure in front of you, lucky girl! New house, new friends, new things to do and see, but with something familiar and loving you always have with you---can you guess what it is?
xoxoxoxo (as Lil would say)

You are so good with words, Tyra. I started getting tearful as I read it. "Watching late-night videos in dirty lawn chairs." is especially moving to me for some reason. It really paints a picture. You will always remember this, but I bet you will grow to love your new life, T!

Your writing makes me think of when we moved from NC to UT when I was seven. I remember laying on a sofa chair while it was in our driveway, looking up at the sky thinking, "this is really, really weird" It is always a bit scary when a big change happens, but sometimes change means you are about to have a great time!

We can't wait to see you in your new house!
