Dishwasher Breakdown

Today our dishwasher broke down, and I didn't know it until it was nighttime. Dad called Thomas and me into the kitchen to announce the news. We had to wash the dishes. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be Dad washed, I rinsed, Thomas dried. Forever. Our treat for doing it was chocolate milkshakes. And cleaning them up. Thomas said it would be an endless cycle; washing dishes, milkshake treat, wash that up, get a treat for doing that, clean it up, treat, clean, treat, clean, and so on. It took us about 40 minutes. Not horrible, not great. Oh well.

I can't wait until they washer breaks down and you get to do clothes by hand. Now that is FUN! :)

You guys are troopers!

One day I was at a friend's house when I was about 8. There was a little sign hanging near the kitchen sink that read:

Thank God for dirty dishes,
they have a tale to tell.
While other folks go hungry,
we're eating very well.
With home and health and happiness,
we shouldn't want to fuss.
For by this pile of evidence,
God's very good to us.

Being thankful for dirty dishes was a new thought for me! My mom told me that for awhile after that, I even wanted to help extra with dishes. :)
(but probably just a little while...)

Cute poem your Grandma shared!

Imagine if you NEVER had a dishwasher and ALWAYS had to wash dishes. OH how terrible!! :) I've been washing dishes by hand for years and years (about 12). What a tragedy! (or trash-edy, as David says it) But I've never had my kids help yet. I think that makes me a bad (but nice?) mom.

I remember washing dishes with my dad one time. Usually it was always with my siblings, though. It can be relaxing and bring you closer together. I'm just glad I don't have to do it, though!

You're lucky that you're used to having a dishwasher. I want one of those so mom won't have to teach me how to wash those nasty, dirty dishes. Anyway, do you have a dishwasher now? Is it new or did you get that one fixed? Oh yeah, and start blogging again!!!
