Nature played a joke on us. It snowed on April fool's day. And stuck to the ground. It was annoying.
When we all got home, all us kids were sitting around the counter eating popcorn and joking around. Then Thomas started doing april fools jokes that really confused Lily and Beth:
Thomas: 1+1 is 2
Lily: You're right!
Thomas: April fools! 1+1=3
Lily and Beth: ???
Thomas: 2 times 3 is 6. April fools! 2 times 3 equals 5
Me: Thomas...
Thomas: 7 squared is 49. April fools! 7 squared is 49.000000001
Me: ??? Oh yeah...
Dad had told us some time ago that when he was in school one of his math teachers told his class about a new "discovery" mathematicians had made with the computer. 7 times 7 was 49, of course, but computers showed that 7 squared was really 49.0000000001 or something. Dad got angry/upset/exasperated and tried to tell the teacher that 7x7 and 7 squared was the same thing and that both equaled 49. The teacher sent him to the principal's office for that.
Me: It's 49!
Thomas: Don't say that or you'll go to the principal's office!
Right then mom walks in, just passing through.
Lily: See! Here's the principal!

Ah, now I get the principal reference...
You got one thing wrong: the april fools snow was beautiful, and a perfect joke from mother nature!
